Phantom Edges are Phantom Blade Zero’s secondary weapons: 24 documented tools that sit on their own Remnant Spark charges and cover the gaps your two primaries cannot. They are not damage sticks you level to 30 — they are answers to specific problems, from crowd control and elemental setup to healing, traversal, and ranged execution. This guide covers every documented edge, where it comes from, and which ones deserve your Dust.

How Phantom Edges Work

Edges fire with R2 and consume Remnant Spark, a separate resource from Sha-Chi and Sha-Chi Essence. Sparks refill at Bells, so an edge is a spendable resource per rest rather than a permanent stat line. You equip two edges alongside two primaries, and swapping weapons quick-attacks and refills Sha-Chi — which means an edge is often best used between weapon dumps rather than as your opening move.

Upgrades for edges use type material + Dust, with no solvent required. The Forge sits at Mandate Outpost, Weeping Creek Valley; after meeting her, any Bell offers Upgrade Equipment. Edge levels follow the same 1–10, 10–20, 20–30 brackets as primaries, but the practical ceiling for a utility edge is far lower.

The Missable Edge: Feather Bow

The Feather Bow is the one edge consistently flagged as missable. It comes from the Purge the Sect sequence in Weeping Creek Valley, and its charged arrow deals bonus damage against full-HP targets — a clean opener before a boss or elite engages. Its Precision Shot temper and its ability to shoot hanging objects make it a genuine utility pick, not just a damage option.

Base Edges vs Soul-Tempered Forms

Soul Tempering is unlocked by Myst in the Order’s underground tavern, Pangzhen, around Chapter 4. Afterward, any Bell → Upgrade Equipment → Soul Temper (purple screen, P). It costs 5,000 Dust + 1 weapon-specific material and is permanent — Dust and material are not refunded, and it cannot be reverted.

For edges, tempering adds a named effect rather than transforming the weapon into a new entry. The documented edge tempers:

  • Bastion — adds a wave to Reprisal Shockwave
  • Flaming Mane — converts to Chaotic Flame
  • Flying Guillotine — heals 20%
  • Dread Axe — +30% charge speed
  • Tiger Cannon — shatters Frozen non-elites and walls
  • War Wagon — up to +50% distance damage
  • Hunter’s Chain Sickle — chain deals full damage and applies Bleed
  • Ink Cut — allows two Radiant Wheels
  • Iron Gauntlets — adds Fist Wave
  • Thunder Spear — chains
  • Feather Bow — Precision Shot
  • Flying Dagger — more daggers, stronger poison
  • Goldblaze — adds Perfect Dodge counter
  • One-Eyed Bow — 3-stage shot
  • Inanis’ Radiant Fan — Nirvana revives at 30% HP per Bell
  • Kuye Temple Prayer Beads — Gold Men
  • Puppeteer’s Bell — adds a third puppet
  • Swordsman’s Summon — Twin-Blade Captain + Baishan Guardians

Primaries transform into new named weapons (Sanguine → Infernal Rogue, Sanguine Reach → Blazing Edge, Sanguine Twin → Shadowless Edge, Broken Blade → Drunken Sword, Wild Oriole → Tianmiao). Edges do not — they keep their name and gain the effect above.

Upgrade Priority for Edges

Edges are utility, not carries. The consensus is to upgrade them to 10 or 15 and stop, reserving Lv25/30 investment for your main weapons. The exceptions are edges you use as core damage, like Dread Axe or Tiger Cannon for burst.

Priority Edge Why
First Feather Bow Opener, puzzle tool, missable
First Bastion Defence when your guard is drained
Second Hunter’s Chain Sickle Range, grapple traversal, Bleed temper
Second Dread Axe / Tiger Cannon Burst and puzzle breaking
Second Inanis’ Radiant Fan HP/Sha-Chi regen, revive temper
Later Summoning edges Distraction and aggro, not damage
Later Elemental edges Only if your build leans into that element

Practical Use: Bosses and Exploration

Edges solve problems primaries cannot. Against bosses, the pattern is simple: spend edge charges before resting at a Bell, since Sparks refill there anyway. Use Bastion when your Sha-Chi is drained and you cannot afford a guard, Dread Axe or Tiger Cannon to punish a Guard-Broken window, and Inanis’ Radiant Fan to stabilize during a long phase.

For exploration, several edges are literal keys:

  1. Tiger Cannon — ignites explosives, shatters walls and Frozen non-elites.
  2. Bashpole — breaks planks and sealed ground.
  3. Flaming Mane — burns brambles.
  4. Illusory Pipa — dispels fog and barriers.
  5. Flying Guillotine — triggers mechanisms.
  6. Feather Bow / Thunder Spear — shoot hanging objects.
  7. Hunter’s Chain Sickle — grapple anchors.
  8. Loong Trident — forces water and snow hiders out.

If you are chasing full completion, keep these equipped or nearby. See the collectibles checklist and missables checklist for what each one gates.

Best Utility Picks

The community consensus on the strongest edges is narrow and consistent:

  • Feather Bow — best opener, bonus vs full HP, missable.
  • Bastion — best defensive edge; a shield when your guard is gone.
  • Hunter’s Chain Sickle — best range and traversal tool.
  • Dread Axe / Tiger Cannon — best burst and puzzle breaking.
  • Inanis’ Radiant Fan — best sustain; the Nirvana temper revives you.

Everything else is situational. Summoning edges are aggro magnets, elemental edges are build-specific, and the rest are puzzle keys you equip when the environment demands it. If you want the broader weapon picture, see all weapons and locations and the best weapons tier list.

Sources & confidence

Main sources are Fextralife’s Phantom Edges, Upgrades, and Weapons pages, cross-checked against allthings and GameSpot for Soul Tempering and against community build guides for practical picks. The biggest uncertainty is the edge count itself: Fextralife lists 24, the official line says 25, and a Chinese database names 26 with Heartrend Pipa and Abyssal Bell — so treat the roster here as the 24 documented edges, not a confirmed final total.
